Happy International Women’s Day!
As the world celebrates the achievements of women everywhere, it’s important to recognize and appreciate the special women in our lives who have done so much for us.
Choosing the best Women’s Day gift for your mum, grandmother, friend or anyone else you want to share your appreciation with is much simpler than birthday or Christmas presents. Here are some top gift choices for this special day of empowerment, reliance, and kindness.
International Women’s Day History
To understand its roots we need to go back in time a bit.
Starting from the female suffrage movement that originated in New Zealand it has been tackling issues such as gender equality, violence against women, and empowerment and is a celebration of womanhood in general.
Since then, according to Wikipedia, it is officially observed as a non-working holiday in several countries including Afghanistan, Armenia, Belarus, Cambodia, China (for women only), Cuba, Guinea-Bissau, Eritrea, Kazakhstan, Madagascar (for women only), Montenegro, Nepal, Russia, Uganda, Ukraine, and Zambia. In some countries, it is a non-working holiday for women only while others simply observe it.
Top Choices for Women’s Day Gifts
Sometimes Women’s Day is equated with Mother’s Day so children often gift their mothers or grandmothers tokens of affection on that day like a card or a bunch of flowers they picked.
For all of us that feel the need to share our love with our fellow sisters this date is an opportunity to say what is quietly implied. Women rely on and appreciate one another in the day-to-day.
When considering gifts, instead of focusing on the category to which they belong: the mother, the wife, grandmother, mother-in-law, or friend, focus on what you think will represent your appreciation towards them.
And yes, it’s always easier to just buy some flowers and go around and give everyone a red rose or carnation but if you have the time and sometimes budget, do something a bit extra for those extraordinary ladies.
And it IS important to show this. As women, we sometimes think we don’t deserve the attention, that what we do every day is just what we are meant to be doing, without reward, but you can’t deny the feeling of happiness when someone gifts you even a hug to show they care and that you are seen.

2. A Gift Basket
A gift basket filled with her favorite things is a great way to show your mother-in-law how much you care. Choose a basket full of beauty products, gourmet food items, or even a selection of her favorite wines or chocolates. You can also include a heartfelt note or poem to make the gift even more special.
If you know what she likes but can’t find the right combination, you can always get empty gift baskets and arrange everything neatly inside.
3. A Special Book
A book is a great gift for any occasion and a great option for International Women’s Day. Choose a book that even your mother-in-law will enjoy, such as a biography of an inspiring woman, a self-help book, or a collection of her favorite poems or stories.
You can also add a special message or inscription to make the gift even more meaningful.
Here are the top three books I recommend for this occasion:
4. A Spa Day
Show your ladies law how much you appreciate them by giving them the gift of relaxation. Treat them to a day at the spa, where she can enjoy a massage, a facial, or a manicure.
You can also arrange for a special meal at the spa, or even just a day of pampering at home.
Since this is a gift that’s mostly local, giving recommendations here is pointless because you’ll no doubt find the closest spa experience in her area.
5. Jewelry
Jewelry is always a great gift for any woman, and a piece of jewelry with the right symbolic goes a long way. Choose a necklace, bracelet, or ring that she will love and cherish. You can also add a special message or engraving to make the gift even more personal.
Depending on her style and preference you can also go for trinkets such as the well known Pandora bracelets and charms:
6. Chocolates and Cakes
Personally, I’m more of a chocolate rather than flowers kind of gal so this topic is perfect for me 🙂 Tread carefully here as you need to know their likes and if they have any nut allergies.
Making some treats is always a good idea and this chocolate cake pops recipe is definitely my favorite:
7. A Photo or digital photo album
You can fill it beforehand with some special pictures from her past and present and complete it with a thoughtful inscription on the cover.
No matter what gift you choose for the special ladies in your life, just make sure they know they are appreciated each and every day and that they are your support system as you are theirs.
It should come from the heart and should be an admiration for her.
Make her feel that little bit more special and appreciated than usual on this International Women’s Day.
With a little thoughtfulness and creativity, you can find the perfect gift that will show how much you care.
