February 14th is widely known as Valentine’s Day, a day dedicated to celebrating love and affection between partners.
But what about those who are single or who just feel a need to celebrate without partners?
Well, Galentine’s Day, celebrated on February 13th, is the perfect opportunity for women to come together, celebrate each other’s company, and spread some joy and love
What is Galentine’s Day?
Galentine’s Day was first introduced in an episode of Parks and Recreation (Season 2, Ep 16).
It is a day when women celebrate their female friendships, focusing on the importance of sisterhood and female empowerment.
The day is all about cherishing and honoring the important women in your life, whether they are family members, coworkers, or best friends.
Why is Galentine’s Day important?
For many women, their female friends are a source of strength, support, and inspiration. They provide a shoulder to cry on, offer advice and are always there to celebrate life’s victories.
Galentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to acknowledge these friendships and show appreciation for the women who make our lives better.
Additionally, in a world where women are often pitted against each other and told to compete, Galentine’s Day is a refreshing reminder of the importance of uplifting and empowering one another.
By celebrating sisterhood and female friendship, women can come together and create a strong support system that will help them through life’s challenges.
Now that you know what it is, how can you celebrate Galentine’s Day?
There are many ways to celebrate Galentine’s Day, and the most important thing is to spend time with the women you love.
Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Have a girls’ night in:
Gather your favorite women and spend the night in, with some delicious food, drinks, and good conversation. You can also make it a movie or game night.
Try not to use your phones. Reconnect through music, laughter and drinks (if allowed). Watch the girliest of girly romantic movies and have some cake.
You can go crazy here, organize a poker night, plan a jewelry making event or make the wildest sundaes (vanilla ice cream, chocolate sprinkles, gummy bears and tangerines anyone 😀)!
The point is, no one’s judging, just be yourself and bring out the inner child in you.
- Treat yourself:
Take a break from your daily routine and treat yourself to something special. Whether it’s a shopping spree, a trip to the salon, or a relaxing spa day, do something that makes you feel good and celebrates you.
If you prefer going out and also splashing out, then this is for you. Just make sure everything’s booked in advance or you might just end up staying in, in which case, refer to idea no. 1 above 🙂.
- Host a brunch or dinner party:
Cook a delicious meal or order in, and spend the evening enjoying each other’s company. This is a great way to catch up with old friends and make new ones.
We tend to forget to reach out and meet new women who share our interests or have similar passions. It’s sometimes easier to create new groups online but nothing will ever beat physically coming together and sharing each other’s energy.
- Volunteer:
Use Galentine’s Day as an opportunity to give back to your community. Find a local organization that helps women and spend the day volunteering together.
But hey, don’t let this be a one-and-done thing.
Make an effort to continually provide support to the women who need it most, it can only come back to you tenfold.
- Go on a trip:
If you have the time and resources, plan a weekend getaway with your favorite women. This is a great way to bond and create lasting memories together.
Ah, the potential here is infinite.
From renting a cabin to a trip to Prague, make sure to take advantage of some last minute deal’s offered for Valentine’s Day.
- Write letters:
Take the time to write letters to the women in your life who have made a positive impact. Share your appreciation and love for them, and let them know how much they mean to you.
Can you tell me the last time you wrote a letter?
As for me, it’s been too long to remember but I believe High School was the final moment for any pen pal letters I received.
And I remember they made me smile, a lot. Just knowing someone made an effort to write, go to the post office and send the mail was enough to respect them and believe they really care.
No matter how you choose to celebrate Galentine’s Day, the most important thing is to show your love and appreciation for the women in your life.
This day is all about spreading joy and positivity, so make sure to bring your biggest smile and your best energy.
Final Thoughts
Galentine’s Day is a special day dedicated to celebrating the important women in our lives. It’s a day to show our love and appreciation for the friends and family members who have made a positive impact on us and to come together and create a strong support system.
In that spirit here is my message to the girls and women in my life:
“Thanks for constantly making me smile, always providing encouragement, and sharing that girl power that gets me through all the hectic days”
So what are you waiting for, grab your gal pals, spread some sisterly love and enjoy yourselves!
